Young children who struggle emotionally and socially often display intense emotions and challenging behaviors that affect their success at home, in early care programs, at school, and within the community. We work with children to improve their emotional and behavioral functioning while supporting parents and caregivers, childcare providers, and teachers in managing intense emotions such as anger, anxiety, fear, irritability, and frustration, as well as challenging behaviors like aggression, temper tantrums, outbursts, sleep disturbances, defiance, clinginess, and difficulty separating from their caregiver. This collaborative approach helps children achieve success in life and thrive in various environments.

Young children respond to and process stressful experiences and traumatic events differently than older children and adults, which can make it challenging to identify the impact of adjustment issues or trauma. As a result, their symptoms are often misunderstood as other emotional or behavioral disorders. Many young children who have experienced stressful life events and trauma show symptoms such as anxiety, fear, helplessness, shame, self-blame, hopelessness, nightmares, eating and sleeping problems, difficulty concentrating, irritability, withdrawal, and mood swings. Our treatment helps children cope with life’s challenges and overcome traumatic experiences, enabling them to grow, develop, and succeed. We also provide parents and caregivers with education, strategies, and skills to effectively support their child's healing process.

A secure attachment and strong parent/caregiver-child relationship are vital for children to overcome trauma and to thrive socially and emotionally. Our treatment approach focuses on nurturing this relationship to strengthen the bond and attachment, fostering resilience and providing the protective factors necessary for the child to flourish. Research shows that having at least one caring, supportive person in a child's life is crucial for healthy development, learning, and overall success.

"Play is a situation in which a child can work through experiences by creating model situations and master reality"
